susiephone:

since pride month is coming up, that also means we’re getting closer to the month when there’ll be 10000 posts reminding us that all the gay pride merch is just a corporate cash-in, that these corporations don’t care about us, that the world isn’t really any better, that none of the pride merch and ads actually mean anything, that it isn’t really progressive, blah blah blah

let me just say

i know. most people on here know. you are not the sole thinking person in a world of sheep. i promise you that the person you’re making all these points to has heard it 100 times 100 ways from 100 other people. we know, tumblr. we know

but dammit, one month a year i get rainbow everything, and that’s a breath of fresh air after eleven months of straight nonsense. i LOVE seeing pride everywhere, even if it is just a corporate cash-grab. and it’s not like i can just opt out of this capitalist society, so fuck it, imma buy all the rainbow, pride-themed, gay merch i can get my hands on.

the world is a capitalist hellhole and there is no escape, so we may as well have what fun we can with it while we try and make things better.

happy pride, folks.

A friend of mine got mad at me once for calling ferris wheels “gay culture”. (love simon am i right?)

So let me tell you a little bit about “queer culture”.

Queer culture is asking your friends who live across the country if you can stay with them just in case something goes wrong with your parents. Queer culture is being afraid of making friends with anybody, because you just know that they’re gonna call someone a faggot as soon as you turn around. Queer culture is being a source of brownie points to people who don’t really care about you. Queer culture is being closer friends with older strangers you met on the internet just because they seem to support and understand you better than anyone you know in real life. Queer culture is being seen as a fetish. Queer culture is being afraid to hold hands with your lover on the street, because it’s bad for the children. Queer culture is feeling every “did you just assume my gender?” joke being directed at you, as if you’re somehow the reason for other people’s stupidity. Queer culture is being expected to teach homophobes how to be less homophobic, because somehow your identity comes with a job description you didn’t even sign up for. Queer culture is seeing yourself being mocked everywhere you go, until you don’t even want to associate with people like you anymore. Queer culture is having the president of your own country joke about his vice president wanting to kill you. Queer culture is every major religion having something against you, and wondering where you fit in. Queer culture is being discriminated against in your own community.

Some parts of Queer Culture can fucking hurt, so when I want to “claim” a ferris wheel for the gays, which, in case you weren’t sure, doesn’t actually change anything about ferris wheels for straight people, maybe you should think about what queer culture can really be. Maybe you should take a breath and let us have our little jokes and memes before we have to go back to the real world and face our realities, where our biggest problems aren’t as small as straight people getting angry about ferris wheels on the internet.

(Please note that these experiences are solely mine and everyone’s experience is different. If you ever need to talk about anything like this I’m always up for a chat.)

I wrote this on a tweet here in case any Shadowhunters fan want to see it there and I tagged as many people from the show as Twitter let me. Nothing will come out of it, I’m sure, but hey, Alberto Rosende himself once said directly to me that I should always speak my mind for what I believe in.

This is the video that shows Matt scolding Dom. After Matt gets up, turn your volume up cuz it’s kind of hard to hear,  you can clearly hear Matt say “You shouldn’t have said that. Not cool.” Please spread this video around, folks, not the one where it cuts off.

Please watch with caution: you can still hear Dom say the f-word

I hadn’t known it continued, thank you for posting this

Story time: I went to boarding school and one day my dad sent me a letter and told me to open it in the dining hall so I was like ??? maybe he sent something for my friends too. So I take it to dinner and open it, and it turns out it’s a card. A record-your-voice card in which my dad recorded himself yelling at the top of his lungs about how my dog pooped on the carpet. And that is the story of how my dad sent me a Howler one day.
